Award-winning Zimbabwean author Tsitsi Dangarembga's latest book, This Mournable Body, is on the Booker Prize shortlist. The Booker Prize is the UK's most prestigious literary award open to any Tsitsi Dangarembga I wrote the book just after Zimbabwe’s independence to encourage young Zimbabweans to develop themselves in spite of the challenges they would face doing so. Tsitsi Dangarembga was studying psychology at the University of Zimbabwe when she first opened Alice Walker’s novel The Color Purple.It was 1983 and she was 25. She had just completed a slim manuscript of the novel that would become Nervous Conditions, written in-between plays for the school’s drama club.

She is a writer and director, known for Pamvura (2005), Everyone's Child (1996) and Nyaminyami amaji abulozi. Tsitsi Dangarembga has made a name for herself as a writer, filmmaker and activist in Zimbabwe.
